The Story Behind the Logo
The Original
The Flake family can trace its roots in Galveston Island back to the 1840's. Rick Flake's father, Phillip S. Flake Jr. started and ran his own electrical contracting business in Galveston County from the early 1960's until his retirement in the late 1980's. Rick and his four brothers all worked in the family business at one time or another (his sister was allowed to miss the fun).
Paying Tribute
Although several of Rick's brothers continued in their father's industry, Rick found it too hot on the Gulf Coast to work outside, so he went to school and got a law degree. When Rick opened his solo ADR practice, he paid tribute to his father's legacy by recreating the Flake Electric logo for his own business.
And then there's fishing..
Rick and his siblings grew up in Galveston Bay ("BOI" - born on the island) and fishing was always a part of the lifestye. In 2013, Rick and his younger brother created Flake Bait Co, LLC. and purchased Big Nasty Baits, an American manufacturer of soft plastic lures for in-shore saltwater game fish. The lures have a loyal following on the gulf coast and Rick thoroughly enjoys telling people that he is the president of Big Nasty Baits.
